12. January 2023Racing bikes and motorcycles for special purposes
Since 2018 Wolfgang Hagemann has been sharing his vast knowledge about the era of steel-tube racing bikes with visitors to the Bremen Classic Motorshow. In February 2023 he will explain, using the example of four different pairings, how differently the racing bikes were designed and manufactured for special purposes. He will talk about two time-trial machines of the Textima make for the road and the track. The two contrasting examples from Cinelli will be a hobby racer and a pro machine. To demonstrate variations from RiGi, Hagemann will bring along a mountain time-trial machine and a sprint machine for the track from his collection. With the fourth pair, both from Kalkhoff, Hagemann will highlight the differences between racing bikes for the road and for the track. The display of racing bikes and the collector himself will again be on the upper floor of the foyer of Hall 1, however this time not underneath the escalator, but at the front end of the foyer above the main entrance. Wolfgang Hagemann has attached a tandem bike in zebra design to a red wall on the top deck. Behind the wall he will reveal the secrets of the steel-tube racers from the 1950s to the 1980s. And anybody looking to buy an old racing bike with a steel-tube frame will certainly find just that at Arthur van Rooij's stand. This is also the place to go for missing parts needed to repair an existing racing bike in the spring.
