In the 1950s, 50-cc mopeds came with a modest 2 hp and a maximum speed of just 50 km/h. But by the end of the 70s, clever tuners were easily able to push the speedometer needles of the "shot-glass class" up into three figures. It was an exciting time for the mostly very young bikers. From the age of 16, they only had to pass a theory test before laying down top speeds around their neighbourhoods with souped-up engines. "Laying down" can also be taken literally. The number of bikers who leaned too far into the bends was extremely high. By this time, the most powerful models boasted over 6 hp. Visitors to the Bremen Classic Motorshow 2024 can look forward to 23 mopeds from these wild years. On show will be four Kreidler mopeds and three each from Zündapp and Hercules. Apart from these bestsellers, visitors will also be able to see rarities from German manufacturers such as Gritzner, NSU, Victoria, Maico and Rixe. A Simson produced in the GDR, a Puch from Austria, an enduro from Italy as well as a Vespa scooter and a Garelli, which was available back in the day from now-defunct German department store chain Neckermann, complete the special show.
